【VG】 Live Report | DIAURA “Kontontaru Sekai, Terasu Gekkou.” @ Shinjuku ReNY 7.31.2016
On July 31, DIAURA held their one-man show 「混沌たる世界、照らす月光。」 (Kontontaru Sekai, Terasu Gekkou) at Shinjuku ReNY in the heart of Tokyo. The show was held in celebration of their release on August 3, 「月光」 (Gekkou). It was obvious fans had high expectations for this show, as the performance was declared sold out more than a month before it took place.
Eerie background music accompanied the excited cheers of the crowd. The lights cut, and the curtain raised to reveal members Kei (guitar), Shoya (bass), and Tatsuya (drums). A giant projection lining the back of the stage showed dim and stormy clouds. A custom stage platform that read “DIAURA” declared vocalist yo-ka’s spot. When he came on stage, the audience erupted in cheers.
Zangetsu no Akari began, and the sliver of a moon appeared on the stage screen. That sliver would become brighter throughout the show, revealing more of the moon until it was complete at the end of the set. The audience listened to the melancholy rock song in silence. yo-ka’s practiced vocals rose, fell, and wavered.
Foreboding piano chords introduced the next song, SIRIUS. The energy picked up for the third song, black sheep under the shallow sleep. The audience began to move and jump, and we were treated with a catchy guitar solo by Kei.
Beautiful Creature is where the real energy began. yo-ka placed his foot on the barrier between the stage and the audience. Fans traveled back and forth, following yo-ka’s cues like puppets, creating the infamous Dictatorial Garden.
When the moon was almost completely full, the mood abruptly changed to a much heavier one with The Redemption. The heavy percussion, bass, and guitar brought the audience into a darker world for only a moment. Then came Gekkou, delivering the message “no matter how chaotic this world becomes, we’ll walk through it together.” This became the both the peak and the ultimate message of the performance.
In his MC, yo-ka spoke again of Gekkou and its message, saying, “Let’s sing of our joy of sharing this night in this place together.” Then everyone sang the last song, Horizon, together. The members of DIAURA smiled and savored this moment. The show ended with a sense of unity between DIAURA and its dedicated gumin.
